The intruder: she thought she was alone; but she wasn't
Article Abstract:
A woman remembers her chance encounter with a female neighbor whom she knew only through those occasions when she looked out her window and saw her in her brownstone across the street. This neighbor recognized her one day when they were supermarket shopping in the same store and introduced herself. Despite their plans to get together for tea, they never managed an arrangement. The woman's memory and thoughts of her living in her apartment for 38 years were jolted when she looked out one day only to see workmen emptying her elderly neighbor's apartment.
