A Markov Sensitivity Model for Examining the Impact of Cost Allocations in Hospitals
Article Abstract:
A model is developed for the cost allocation process in United States hospitals. A Markov Chain is used to assess changes in the original data. Under this method, the entire step-down process does not have to be recalculated to accommodate change. The step-down procedure is reviewed. The Markov model of the step-down procedure is given. Two types of step-down methods are generated and contrasted. Changes considered include changing the basis for a service center and expansion or contraction of a service center. The Markov chain approach is useful for sensitivity analysis of change. Tables are included.

Remote sensing
Article Abstract:
Archaelogists began using remote sensing technology in their work at the start of the 20th century. By the 1970s and 1980s, however, archaeologists stop using remote sensing because of the technology's high costs. In addition, optical physics, computer analysis and multivariate statistics were required to operate remote sensing equipment during this time, making it difficult for scientists to employ the technology. Nevertheless, use of remote sensing has increased in recent years because it has become cheap and easily-learned.
