Hardy interns observe key lesbian/gay rights case
Article Abstract:
National Organization for Women interns attended the hearing of Romer v. Evans, the first major case about lesbian and gay rights that has been heard in the high court in years. Romer v. Evans was based on a ballot measure in Colorado that bans any group from lobbying for change for its own behalf. The case challenges the conservative views of the state on lesbian and gay issues. Despite the excitement in the atmosphere, however, no person was confident enough to guess the court's decision.

Supreme Court victory protects lesbian/gay rights
Article Abstract:
The ruling by the Colorado Supreme Court on the Romer vs Evans is a big victory for lesbian and gay activists. The high court rejected the anti-lesbian and gay amendment to Colorado's constitution that was enacted in 1992 through a ballot measure. With this civil rights breakthrough, gay and lesbian activists have turned their attention to attacks against same-sex marriage. The ruling also immediately had a positive impact on similar measures in other states.
