How to beat the heat

Parents of infants should protect their babies from sunlight and heat by dressing them in light cotton clothing and hats, using a sunshade, applying SPF 15 sunscreen to the babies, not exposing them during the middle of the day, giving them water, and lining car seats with light cotton blankets.

Sudden infant death syndrome

SIDS is a rare occurrence and is often associated with health risks such as premature birth, or smoking or drug use by the mother. Parents who are worried about SIDS can take precautions such as laying the baby on its back or side, and not placing pillows or stuffed toys in the crib.

When baby has colic

Parents who are worried that their baby has colic should first rule out several other possibilities, including gas, allergies or insufficient milk intake. A pediatrician should be able to diagnose colic. Tips on soothing a colicky baby are presented.
