A survey on women's body image in relation to their breasts showed that negative body image is more widespread in the US today than ever. Some 61% of the respondents also disclosed having considered breast surgery. Women should be taught how to accept themselves by loving partners and by good sex.

The introduction of American TV programs to Fiji has altered the attitudes of young Fijian women about their body image. Prior to 1995, women were not worried about obesity but rather, about going thin. The introduction of TV programming has influenced young Fijian women to diet and become thin.

Almost all of those who responded to the May 1997 survey of 'Self' recognize the existence of spiritual life. Readers of 'Self' are more flexible with organized religion and have very varied definitions of spirituality.
