Improving annual reports by improving the readability of footnotes

Article Abstract:

Several software packages are excellent tools to improve the quality and readability of presentation footnotes in annual reports. Decisionware Inc's Rightwriter measures the readability of text using the Flesch-Kincaid Index and offers suggestions to improve the text. The Rightwriter analysis is inserted directly in the text with comments about unnecessary qualifiers, use of jargon, poor grammar, and complex sentences. The original draft of one footnote, the Rightwriter analysis, and a revision based on the analysis are discussed.

Manifesto cribsheet

Article Abstract:

The main three UK political parties can be assessed on the extent to which their policies would affect private investors. The Conservative party has the most favorable polices which include increased flexibility for regulations affecting private pension saving. The least favorable is the Labor party which could affect profits through the minimum wage and planned windfall tax. The Liberal Democrats have promised to improve personal equity plans and tax-exempt special savings accounts.
