Psychotherapy has been found to help people afflicted with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) manage stress and IBS symptoms, which include abdominal pain, diarrhea and constipation. Cognitive therapy is used to identify stressors that aggravate the disorder, which affects almost one out of 10 people.
