Is sadness contagious?

Article Abstract:

Researches show that a spouse's depression can affect a couple in all sorts of negative ways, such as, disrupting communication, sparking marital dissatisfaction, and increasing the risk for divorce. The best way to help a partner is to give him some space, since confidence could bolster a depressed person rather than sympathy.
