Judy Herman: cleaning house
Article Abstract:
Judith L. Herman looks back to her formative years as the root of her involvement in the feminist movement. Judaism and the leftist orientation of her parents' politics had made her politically aware at an early age. The transition of her involvement in civil to anti-war to women's rights movement was seamless. Together with other women in mental health care, she formed the Mental Health Collective (MHC) which had feminist orientation in therapy. Her other contributions to feminism include studies on sexual and domestic violence and on women's psychological development.

Fighting sexual abuse
Article Abstract:
Andrea Dworkin talks about her experiences that led her to a feminism with a special focus on fighting sexual abuse and violence against women. She expresses outrage against the new feminists, the women who claim to be or are hailed as feminists, but are anti-women. She names Camille Paglia and Katie Roiphe, as among those who trivialize rape as a feminist issue. Her perception of feminism in the '90s is that it has lost touch with the life experienced by women and that it is very white and middle class in orientation.
