Over 500,000 Canadians suffer from seasonal affective disorder in winter. Its symptoms include oversleeping, fatigue, overeating and weight gain. For some sufferers, light therapy and antidepressants have eased symptoms. Potential treatments include dietary changes and supplements, L-tryptophan, tyrosine and folic acid derivatives.

Nature has a way of healing both physical and spiritual hurts. Enjoying nature through gardening is one way to let this happen. Research has shown that people engaging in this activity show more signs of psychological health than those who do not.

Bone up on exercise

Exercising can prevent women from developing osteoporosis later in life. The type of physical activity chosen must be weight bearing to develop bone mass as well as fun to encourage maintenance.
