Making everyone count in 2000 census
Article Abstract:
The US census to be taken in the year 2000 and the activity of groups like the National Organization for Women (NOW) at the request of the US Census Bureau to combat undercounting are discussed. Undercounting puts poor and minority communities at a disadvantage for allocation of funds. Congress has denied funds for technology in the census. Low responses are, according to the Census Bureau, the result of lack of promotion and false rumors about the questionnaire.
