Recruiting quality new hires, and motivating current employees is essential to providing good accounting services. The strongest competition in the accounting profession in the 1990s will be attracting and keeping high quality employees and suggested guides may help manage human resources in the accounting field. Guidelines include developing an accounting environment that allows creative employees to grow while still adhering to accepted accounting principals; focusing on positive qualities in recruiting interviews that candidates will bring to work environments; and viewing new accounting positions and the accounting profession through the eyes of recruits to obtain a fresh outlook.

Managing work and family: the challenge
Article Abstract:
Working parents can learn to effectively balance their career and family responsibilities. Feelings of guilt can be eliminated by concentrating on the positive aspects of working. Parents involved in a stressful work environment should relax when they are at home. They should also become more organized by setting priorities, delegating or exchanging household tasks with others, and planning ahead. Parents can benefit by learning to communicate effectively with both family members and employers. It is crucial for working parents to set aside time to relax by themselves.

Managing e-mail
Article Abstract:
The use of electronic communication improves productivity and promotes a paperless office. It is also a powerful tool that can foster good will and stimulate creativity. However, it has certain drawbacks such as the slow response of receivers, less security for sensitive information and reduction of face-to-face interaction. Considering these disadvantages, e-mail should only be used for specific communications and should be kept short and concise.
