Emotional stress and childbirth can cause sudden, but temporary, hair loss in women. More permanent female pattern baldness has genetic causes and affects some 20 million women in the US. Minoxidil can stabilize hair loss and even regenerate hair.

The IUD deserves a second look

American women have shunned IUDs because of their association with pelvic inflammatory disease. However, the devices are safe and effective for women who do not have a sexually transmitted disease, are monogamous and have had at least one child.
