March to end the war on the poor
Article Abstract:
The National Organization for Women March is protesting against a bill passed by the Congress to end a 60-yr-old program of monetary assistance to the poor. The decision will affect women and children the most, as women head more than 85% of the single-parent families that get help from the Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC). The financial aid by AFDC is around $661 per month per family, which is below the poverty line. The Congress should, instead, introduce programs to alleviate poverty and reduce problems of the poor.

New Congress poses threat to reproductive rights
Article Abstract:
The new Congress that was elected in 1996 is made up of mostly anti-abortion legislators, posing a threat to abortion rights movements. Abortion rights supporters were successful in lobbying against the passage of an abortion ban during the end of the 104th Congress. However, they are worried that the 105th Congress could again try to impose a ban on abortion and would make it even harder for them to get other anti-reproductive rights repealed.
