Maternal infanticide and modern motherhood
Article Abstract:
The situated context of maternal infanticide is examined. The author, analyzing data from 14 interviews with women who had killed their infants, maintains infant behaviors such as crying, difficulty in training, and prolonged illnesses made the women feel powerless as mothers and argues the socialization of motherhood norms left the mothers without any escape from the frustration.
