Adipose tissue lipogenesis and fat deposition in leaner broiler chickens

Article Abstract:

The relative proportion of hepatic and adipose tissue lipogenesis contributing to adipose tissue growth in broiler chickens was investigated. The effect of manipulating plasma lipoprotein flux was also studied. Results indicate that 80% to 85% of fat deposition in young broiler chickens are from plasma triglyceride proteins. Adipose tissue lipogenesis accounts for the remainder. Genetic, nutritional or immunological decreases in plasma lipoproteins had not affected or decreased adipose tissue lipogenesis.
