Media Institute sets sights on Feminist Network
Article Abstract:
The National Organization for Women's (NOW's) plans for a feminist broadcast network are discussed. The NOW Fdtn. has held a day-long strategy session on women in the media, holding its first Media Inst., a symposium on the impact of the various media on the lives of women. Activists started to plan the launch of a feminist communications network to include TV, cable, radio and Web broadcasting. More than 130 participants formed 10 discussion groups. The session started with consideration of how few women are in the media and the information that a shocking 87% of guests on Sunday public affairs programs are male.
