Member education: the key to retention
Article Abstract:
Professional growth is the foremost reason why women join the American Business Women's Assn (ABWA). In a survey of women who have been ABWA members for at least one year, the prevailing opinion showed that expected professional growth was not fulfilled by actual opportunities for it within the organization. Although three of the four key factors for members who left ABWA are uncontrollable, ABWA chapters can retain more members by balancing the social and professional aspects of the organization. This can be achieved through scholarships and self-development programs.

The board urged ABWA chapters to recruit at least two more members than they did in 1992. Pointers on how to enrol new members are provided.
