An update is presented on the status of the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women, which reached its 20th anniversary in Dec 1999. To date, the United States remains the only industrialized nation that has yet to ratify the treaty; other countries that have failed to ratify include Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Afghanistan.

Supreme Court shows vulnerability with close decisions
Article Abstract:
This article discusses the possible constitutional implications for women's equal rights by a Supreme Court ruling against the civil remedy clause of the Violence Against Women Act in the case of Brzonkala v. Morrison. Other cases included abortion procedures and states rights in Stenberg v. Carhart, and state's actions against anti-abortionists in Hill v. Colorado.
