NOW activists celebrate national Coming Out Day
Article Abstract:
The National Coming Out Day for homosexual men and women has been celebrated every 11th of October since 1988, the first year anniversary of the Lesbian and Gay Rights March held in 1987. It was founded by gay rights proponents Rob Eichberg and Jean O'Leary. The move has encouraged homosexuals to confess their true sexual orientation to their family and acquaintances. So far, homosexual activists, with the support of the National Organization for Women, have won the passage of anti-discrimination laws in some states, as well as corporate-sponsored domestic benefits for partners.
