NOW activists look to the future at 1997 conference
Article Abstract:
The National Organization for Women held its annual conference in Memphis, TN, on Jul 4-6, 1997. The conference focused on rallying women to work for equal treatment of the sexes in the second millennium. Seminars were held tackling varied issues including health, domestic violence, safety in the workplace and countering pro-male, rightist organizations. The conference was graced by Sen Carol Moseley-Braun and Rep Cynthia McKinney. The feminist group promised to elevate the number of women government officials by year 2000.

Faulkner closer to full cadet status
Article Abstract:
Shannon Faulkner won her first legal battle against the The Citadel, a state-funded military institute, when a federal appeals court ruled that she must be allowed to join the corps in Aug. 1995 unless the government establish an alternative military-style institution for women. The decision was praised by National Organization for Women Secretary General Karen Johnson who claimed that women have served the country in its war efforts as competent military leaders.

A rainbow march to fight the 'ultra right.'
Article Abstract:
The National Organization for Women held an anti-ultra ring protest march in San Francisco, CA, in Apr 14, 1996. Activists from more than 850 various organizations with diverse agendas joined the 1.7-mi march along the San Francisco Bay waterfront. After the march, activists joined an afternoon rally. April 14 was declared 'March to Fight the Radical Right Day' by San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown.
