NOW activists mobilize to "fight the right." (National Organization for Women)

Article Abstract:

National Organization for Women (NOW) activists got off to a good start in 1996 with a well-attended protest rally in Long Beach, CA. As part of NOW's Equality Countdown Campaign for the 1996 elections, the protest called on women to take a proactive stance in the elections by rejecting the anti-affirmative action ballot measure, particularly in California. State NOW coordinator Elizabeth Toledo also encouraged women to elect more feminists in the government to ensure that women's rights would be protected. The schedule of NOW's five major activities in 1996 is presented.

NOW launches equality countdown campaign

Article Abstract:

The National Organization for Women (NOW) is set to launch the 'Fight the Right' campaign to fight for women's rights on Apr 14, 1996, in San Francisco, CA. California has been the site of many atrocities against women and people of color. The rising episodes of terrorism against abortion makes California the right choice for the campaign. The government's decision to cut funds for preventing violence against women, murders and arson are issues that the NOW President Patricia Ireland refuses to accept.
