NOW influences domestic violence survivor's pardon

Article Abstract:

The National Organization for Women's (NOW) chapters in Seacoast and New Hampshire helped June Briand, who was imprisoned since 1987 because of murdering his abusive husband, to have a conditional pardon. NOW learned that Briand became an empowered woman while being in prison by finishing her high school education and getting an associate degree in business. NOW is confident that Briand has transformed herself to become a contributor to the positive development of society,

First Spanish-speaking NOW chapter forms in the Bronx, N.Y.

Article Abstract:

The 2005 Women of Color and Allies (WOCA) Summit brought out the revitalization of the Bronx Chapter in New York, founded by the late Geraldine Miller, in whose memory the WOCA conference was dedicated. Longtime activists Rosalba Polanco and Candida Bido along with other activists from their community went home with a mission to revitalize National Organization for Women in their area, making the Bronx chapter their first Spanish-speaking chapter.

Women of Color summits to be held in NOW regions

Article Abstract:

The 2005 National NOW Conference held in Nashville, Tennessee highlighted concerns of the Latina community with a workshop in Spanish and screening of the award-winning documentary 'Senorita Extraviada,' which details the continuing violence women face in Juarez, Mexico. This event also had the largest contingency of Latinas, the fastest growing population in the US, in the history of NOW's conference.
