Strawberry pickers across the nation staged a march on Apr 13, 1997, to protest their working conditions. The march was organized by the United Farm Workers and garnered a crowd of around 30,000 from the ranks of activists for women's rights, civil rights, environmental, lesbian, gay and labor movements. Some of the workers were fighting against sexual harassment and discrimination while others were demanding for overtime wages and protection from the effects of pesticides used in the fields.
