NOW, students defeat anti-lesbian/gay measure
Article Abstract:
The National Organization for Women (NOW) and its allies in the student sector in Maine scored a victory when the anti-lesbian and gay ballot measure was defeated in a 53% to 47% vote. Also known as Question One, the measure would have revoked the law banning discrimination against lesbians and gays in Maine. NOW largely attributes its victory to the solid support extended by the state's student population, which responded to its get-out-the-vote campaign.
