NOW's Bush-whacker campaign heats up

This article discusses the efforts of the National Organization of Women's (NOW) political action committee's efforts to draw attention to Republican presidential candidate George W. Bush's record on women's rights and other social policies. NOW activists point out that Bush opposes abortion, affirmative action, hate crime legislation, gay marriage and adoption, and that Texas has the worst record for health care coverage and is the state with the second highest number of children living in poverty.

The federal government has become very conservative now that George W. Bush is president. He has appointed right wingers who oppose abortion rights and has supported Congressional efforts to ban the abortion pill mifepristone and backs a initiative to give federal aid to religious charities.

NOW targets Senate for emergency campaign to save the Supreme Court
Article Abstract:
The November 2000 presidential election is still up in the air but the National Organization of Women is already working to see that the Senate does not confirm conservatives to replace retiring Supreme Court judges. The elections also saw many victories for women senators, representatives and governors.
