Article Abstract:

A woman tells of her family's ordeal during Canada's Great Ice Storm of 1998 which hid her neighborhood under a thick layer of ice. In spite of a power failure which lasted nearly a month, the family survived through free meals from shelters, support from neighbors and practicality.

'Virtual banking' allows customers to make transactions through the use of telephones, computers and ABMs 24 hours a day. Different banks offer services at varied rates. Thus, customers must first consider potential savings, costs and rates, and transactions that each bank offers.
