Now that I'm retired, how can ABWA help me?

Article Abstract:

The retired member chapters of the American Business Women's Assn. (ABWA) provide opportunities for retired businesswomen to socialize, provide support to one another and plan new undertakings. These chapters address concerns that may not be on top of the list of priorities of regular ABWA chapters, such as enhancing social skills and improving quality of life. However, despite their different interests, retired chapters actively participate in the activities of other chapters.

Spreading the word to retired women

Article Abstract:

Retired businesswomen are welcome to join the American Business Women's Assn. In fact, its PrimeTime Connection chapters are specifically for retirees. Retired members interested in recruiting fellow retirees can use a variety of methods for achieving this. One way is to obtain a list of all members to identify the inactive ones and then go after them. Other techniques include advertising in local publications and relying on word of mouth.

Leading comfortably

Article Abstract:

Janet Bilyeu is the first woman president of Kitsap Computing Seniors. It is an organization of nearly 600 senior citizens interested in computers. She credits her leadership abilities to her membership in the American Business Women's Assn. (ABWA). She used to consider herself shy and had no leadership potential, but being part of ABWA made her want to be a leader and taught her to become one.
