Glycogen is depleted during exercise and needs to be replenished by eating carbohydrates. If the exercise is intense, carbohydrates should be consumed as soon after the exercise as possible. However, average exercisers can just rely on their normal diets and obtain 60% of their calories from carbohydrates.

Research studies disagree on the need for vigorous exercise in order to prolong life. The Centers for Disease Control recommends moderate exercise, while a study of Harvard graduates concludes vigorous exercise is needed. But there is general agreement that regularity of exercise is important.
