Article Abstract:

A review of the current projects of Buro Happold Consulting Engineers illustrates the significant role which engineers play in the development of a building to fulfill the ambitions of the architect. The National Centre for Popular Music, Sheffield, England, for example, comprises four steel-clad drums each representing a different popular music theme. The drums rest on a first-floor slab which is supported by columns tapered at the lower end and topped by a mushroom-head feature. The drums have a strong profile produced by 30 curved steel beam sections connected by ribs.

Alpha-fluorinated ethers, thioethers, and amines: Anomerically biased species

Article Abstract:

Compounds such as alpha-fluorinated ethers, thioethers, and amines are portrayed and are introduced as an additional factor of complexity. Fluorine will therefore remain an important tool to modulate the properties of biologically active substances which means that alpha-fluorinated ethers, thioethers, and amines will definitely claim a major role in the future evolution of the field.
