Downhill skis designed for women tend to be lighter, have a looser weave and a greater flex distribution than men's skis. Most ski boots still are made with a unisex shell that does not properly fit a women's heel. New liners can sometimes fix this problem.

Skiing in powder requires proper weight distribution and proper use of arms, legs and hips. The first turn tried should be an elongated 'S' to test snow characteristics. Techniques for differing snow conditions are discussed.
