Metabolic fitness, which may be a one of the best ways to measure the risk of cardiovascular disease, is concerned with the body's effective use of insulin and glucose. Lower-intensity, longer-duration exercises may be the most practical way to improve these metabolic functions.

Research by Cheryl A. Lovelady and Kathryn G. Dewey indicates that breast feeding mothers can continue their exercise workouts, so long as an adequate diet is maintained. It may be better to nurse the baby before exercising since exercise can increase lactic acid.
