Social Security preservation a top priority for NOW
Article Abstract:
NOW, along with other national organizations, is campaigning against a plan by the Republican leadership in Congress to scrap Social Security. NOW has earlier warned that a transition from Social Security to individually-held private accounts that are subject to the vagaries of the investment markets will be detrimental to women. Women account for around 60% of Social Security recipients and traditionally receive more Social Security benefits than men.

States cast important ballots for civil rights
Article Abstract:
The National Organization for Women (NOW) had a number of successful attempts at toppling affirmative action programs in US as shown by the results of ballot initiatives in several states. In Texas, for instance, activists were able to move for the abolition of affirmative actions in all educational institutions. Washington voters, on the other hand, defeated a ballot initiative which promotes occupational discrimination based on sex-related issues.
