The Fitness Institute in Toronto recommends a physical fitness workout program called step training. The program involves stepping onto a platform four to 12 inches high while doing body movements. An hour's stepping exercise is equivalent to three miles of walking and seven miles of running.

Step forward: the latest research on step training
Article Abstract:
The effectiveness and safety of step training is discussed. The energy used in step training seems to be in direct proportion to the step height. Long-term step training research indicates a decrease in body-fat. Hand weights and fast music may increase the risk of injury.
