Cheris, 50, has been to the Olympics twice before, and she is hoping to compete in the new women's epee event at the 1996 Olympics. She took up the sport at the age of 29. Marsh is the highest ranked US woman fencer and is currently ranked 10th for the World Cup.

The 1996 Summer Olympics will feature two new women's sports: the triple jump and the 5,000-meter race. US athlete Sheila Hudson plans to compete in the triple jump and is ranked fifth in the world. Gina Procaccio will compete in the 5,000-meter race.
