Community building through design
Article Abstract:
Ordinary people feel unable to define their needs in a professional design or planning presentation, so a program in Toronto, Canada, encouraged students to design a personal backyard retreat. The students learned about the environmental impact of their designs and debated alternatives. Such a program is useful in introducing ordinary citizens to issues of planning and design.
