Research indicates that a father-to-be's exposure to environmental and lifestyle hazards can affect reproduction and fetal development. Concerns about cigarette smoking, paternal drinking, medication, illicit drugs and workplace chemical exposure are discussed.

An infection that threatens newborns

Doctors have new procedures for testing pregnant women for Group B streptococcus (GBS), a rare, but potentially fatal infection in infants carried by the mother. Doctors do not recommend maternal treatment for GBS until labor starts.
