The metabolic syndrome...the deadly quartet
Article Abstract:
When a combination of at least three of the four risks - obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol level - is present in a person, it constitutes metabolic syndrome, which is a precursor for a heart attack or a stroke, especially in women. A healthy lifestyle, including exercise, balanced diet and weight monitoring, is the best preventive measure for treating metabolic syndrome.

Smoking can lead to cardiovascular disease
Article Abstract:
On an average, a woman who smokes faces the risk of heart attacks and sudden cardiac death 19 years earlier than non smoking woman. Nicotine present in the cigarette smoke destroys endothelium lining of arteries, causes plaque deposition and increases blood clot formation.
