Their children should be considered in every decision that they make, be it a sleepover or displays of affection. The most important thing, however, is for them to continually assure children of their presence and their love.

'I hate you!'(when children use these words)

Advice is given for dealing with children who respond to punishment by saying 'I hate you!' It is suggested that parents learn to calm down before reacting, verify the child's feelings, explain that saying the word 'hate' is hurtful, suggest other words that they can use, not cave in, and make a peace offering.
