Training employees through ABWA

Article Abstract:

The American Business Women's Assn. offers numerous professional-development opportunities and training materials that its members can use to improve the performance of their own staff as well as cut their training costs. One of the association's many useful offerings is the 'Career Enhancement Series.' It covers 10 topics that include meeting skills, team-building and diversity management. Each packet comes with a facilitator's guide, exercises and master copies of handouts.

Becoming our best together

Article Abstract:

The American Business Women's Assn.'s responsiveness to the changing needs of its members is exemplified by the recent decision of its National Board of Directors to officially recognize councils as part of its formal structure. Another example of the association's effort to better serve its members is the Board's recent expansion of the Stephen Bufton Memorial Educational Fund, which now includes a business-skills grant and a loan program.

Teaching through mentoring

Article Abstract:

Several retired members of the American Business Women's Assn. (ABWA) are putting their business skills and experiences to good use by serving as mentors to other members. Mentoring benefits not only the younger members of the organization, but also those who serve as mentors by helping them to make a smooth transition to active work life to retirement and by enabling them to contribute to ABWA's tradition of leadership and education.
