Upwardly mobile: on the rocks for fun and fitness

Article Abstract:

Rock climbing as a sport began in the 1930s, but it was not until 30 years later that safer and more efficient equipment began to make it the popular activity it is today. By the late 1970s, more women had begun to climb. Rock-climbing techniques are discussed.
