What are schools teaching their students about sexual harassment?

Article Abstract:

A sexual harassment suit brought against a Monroe County, GA, school board underscores the lax way by which school administrators and teachers handle complaints of sexual harassment in the campus. The mother who filed the suit on behalf of her fifth-grade daughter said school officials repeatedly ignored her and her daughter's complaints. The suit, which is now before the US Supreme Court, should give notice to school officials that not all cases of sexual harassment in grade and high schools are just teasing and child's play.

Sleazy courtroom tactics hit harassment cases

Article Abstract:

The National Organization for Women vowed to work for the passage of laws that will protect women who file sexual harassment suits from attacks on their sexual history. The passage of the Civil Rights Acts of 1991 as an offshoot of the landmark sexual harassment case filed by Anita Hill has raised some negative effects. With the rise in damages given to victims of work-based sexual harassment, defence lawyers of companies utilized increasingly aggressive tactics for breaking down the credibility of women.

Supreme Court restricts civil rights remedies

Article Abstract:

The US Supreme Court's restriction of civil rights remedies in the 1998-99 term are discussed. Several cases indicate that women are likely to be protected in cases claiming discrimination on the part of state institutions, but that when private business interests are in question less court interference can be expected.
