When doctors make mistakes

Medical errors cause as many as 98,000 deaths a year in the US according to a study carried out by the Institute of Medicine in Washington, D.C. but seldom are any explanations offered by the doctors responsible for fear their words will be used against them in lawsuits. Ironically it is this very silence that is often seen as lack of compassion that triggers the lawsuits they so seek to avoid.

An American atrocity
Article Abstract:
Even as activists are fighting to end the gruesome ritual of female circumcision overseas, immigrants from different parts of the world are carrying it out in the United States. Female genital mutilation (FGM) is banned in the U.S.A. but nobody has so far been prosecuted for the crime.
