When is a GIC not a GIC?

Article Abstract:

Women must become aware of the pros and cons of the latest types of guaranteed investment certificates (GICs). GICs offer higher returns with no risk. However, their variety makes comparison difficult and involves complicated calculations. Gains are also taxed as interest income.

Get off the credit card treadmill

Middle-income working mothers in Canada are most likely to have a balance on their credit cards. However, these problem can be solved by transferring the debt to a lower-rate loan, choosing a short term payment, and using bank savings to pay the balance.
