Women of Color and Allies Summit an inspiring event
Article Abstract:
The 1999 Women of Color and Allies Summit was viewed by National Organization for Women (NOW) members as a highly successful event. The three-day summit, attended by an estimated 700 participants, featured women among various races and ethnic origins. During the event, attendees were not only able to demonstrate their skills in interpretative dancing, singing and poetry reading, but also had a chance to voice out their experiences. Welfare bill further endangers domestic violence survivors
Article Abstract:
The National Organization for Women (NOW) is worried that the new welfare repeal law could further endanger survivors of family violence. In response, the NOW is trying to get states to include the most important provisions of the optional Family Violence Amendment in their welfare plans. These provisions, such as screening welfare applicants for domestic violence and referring women to support services, are necessary to protect and assist welfare-dependent domestic violence survivors.
