Supreme Court decision shatters all-male bastions
Article Abstract:
The Supreme Court ruled that the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) must admit women into its Corps of Cadets if it wants to remain a public institution. The decision is a big blow to VMI and The Citadel, which are the two remaining publicly funded all-male military institutions. However, it was a big victory for the women's rights movement. After dismissing the possibility of privatization, VMI announced that it will begin admitting women in Fall of 1997. The Citadel has already accepted four women in Aug 1997 in response to the ruling.

Promise Keepers fundraising scheme fools media, not NOW
Article Abstract:
The National Organization for Women (NOW) claims that the media campaign by the Promise Keepers (PK) that it is reducing its staff because of financial trouble is merely a cynical fundraising scheme. The radical right group was able to raise $4 million in just one month, half of which were donated by churches. NOW also alleged that PK was never in danger of folding since it had already planned several major rallies prior to its announcement to lay off more than 300 employees.
