Would you have surgery to lose weight?

Article Abstract:

Issues relating to weight loss surgery (WLS) are discussed. Women constitute 80% of patients and this practice is becoming more widespread, although surgeons warn that it should only be undertaken as a last measure. Post-operative complications are discussed by former patients of WLS.

A personal narrative is presented describing a woman's experiences of years of unsuccessful fertility treatments, and her decision, together with her husband, to adopt a child. She feels that accepting her infertility allowed her to continue her life and be happy.
