A RING-type ubiquitin ligase family member required to repress follicular helper T cells and autoimmunity

Article Abstract:

The mouse genome for autoimmune regulators is systematically screened to isolate a mouse strain, sanroque, with severe autoimmune disease resulting from a single recessive defect in an unknown mechanism for repressing antibody responses to self. The sanroque mutation acts within mature T cells to cause formation of excessive numbers of follicular helper T cells and germinal centres.

Cellular and genetic mechanisms of self tolerance and autoimmunity

Article Abstract:

An attempt is made to understand how sets of gene products coordinate self-tolerance mechanisms and how defects in these controls lead to autoimmune disease. The conserved genes and proteins laid out by mammalian genome sequencing, and the relative ease of moving back and forward between human and rodent gene analysis, provide the vehicle for solving both of these challenges.

DNA repair is limiting for haematopoietic stem cells during ageing

Article Abstract:

The article discusses on the DNA ligase that is utilized for the repair of DNA double-strand breaks, which becomes very difficult for haematopoietic stem cells during ageing due to a continuous loss of the bone marrow.
