A helical arch allowing single-stranded DNA to thread through T5 5'-exonuclease
Article Abstract:
The phage T5 D15 5'-exonuclease, involved in DNA repair and replication, contains a helical arch which allows a single-stranded DNA to slip through it. The arch is formed by two helices containing positively charged and hydrophobic amino acids, respectively. The base of the arch contains an active site composed of two metal-binding regions. The positively charged residues point toward the inner side of the arch to allow interaction with the DNA-phosphate backbone. The arch contains phenylalanine residues on one side and basic residues on the other side. These residues are directed toward the center of the arch.

A chiral spherical molecular assembly held together by 60 hydrogen bonds
Article Abstract:
A chiral spherical molecular assembly held together by 60 hydrogen bonds is capable of self-assembling and maintaining its structure in apolar media. It is also able to encapsulate guest species within a clearly-structured cavity with an internal volume of around 1,375 angstroms. The fact that the molecular assembly retains its cavity in both solution and the solid state indicates that it could be used to package guests within its interior. This suggests a number of applications, including a microvesicle for drug delivery.
