Article Abstract:

The catalytic subunit of protein kinase A (PKA) enters the nucleus and phosphorylates the gene-transcription factor CREB, which activates genes that contain cAMP-response elements. Using immunohistochemistry, it is observed that the phosphorylated form of CREB is enriched at sites of ongoing myogenesis such as the dermomyotome.

Retinoic acid coordinates somitogenesis and left-right patterning in vertebrate embryos

Article Abstract:

The relation between somitogenesis and the left-right asymmetry machinery in retinoic acid (RA)-deficient embryos are investigated. The results suggest that RA is important in buffering the lateralizing influence of the left right machinery, thus permitting synchronization of the development of two embryonic sides.

fgf8 mRNA decay establishes a gradient that couples axial elongation to patterning in the vertebrate embryo

Article Abstract:

The transcription of fgf8 messenger RNA is restricted to the growing posterior tip of the embryo. When fgf8 mRNA is degraded in the newly formed tissues, the formation of mRNA gradient is translated into a gradient of FGF8 protein, which provides a novel model for morphogen gradient formation.
